Dr. Liu is a M.D and Ph.D, chief and professor, doctoral supervisor. His specialty is neurotrauma and brain Neoplasm. He is the editor of Chinese Journal of Critical Care Medicine, reviewer of Chinese Journal of Neurosurgery and Chinese Medical Journal (English edition), associate director of the Second Chinese Association of Neurosurgeon, Chinese expert Association of Nerotrauma and Chinese Journal of Medical Laboratory Technology, editor of the Second Medical Evaluation Experts Committee of Beijing Chongwen District, expert of Asia-Oceania Neurotrauma Society, Chinese Trauma Association, Neurotrauma Group.
After getting his master's degree from Norman Bethune University of Medical Science in 1988, Dr. Liu started his career in the department of neurosurgery at the Jilin Provincial People’s Hospital. After 4 years, he completed the resident and chief resident’s training programs, then became the attending surgeon. During that time, he not only mastered the basic skills and operations of neurosurgery that helped build a solid foundation for his lifelong career, but also began his research of brain neoplasms that would later define his study direction. Then, supervised by Dr. Wang Zhongcheng, who is an academician and the most famous neurosurgeon in China, Dr. Liu completed his training of clinical neurosurgery for master’s degree at (Beijing Neurosurgical Institute Affiliated to) Capital Medical University in 1992, with his major research field in “Mechanisms and Clinical Treatment of Cerebral Vasospasm”. In 1995, Dr. Liu took part in the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology New Star Program. In 2000, he not only completed the whole training plan and got the certificate but also earned the third degree reward encouragement of the Beijing Municipal Technological Achievement Award, too. In 2002, Dr. Liu joined in a key program for the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission—“Research of Effects of Mild Hypothermia Therapy on the Protection of Central Nervous System Injury” which was led by his former supervisor Dr. Wang Zhongcheng, and he was in charge of a sub-topic research in “Applied Research of Mild Hypothermia Therapy in Severe Head Injury”. In 2004, Dr. Liu was appointed to Associate Director of the Second Neurosurgery Department in the Beijing Tiantan Hospital, and the Chief Director of the Head Injury (craniocerebral trauma) Research Laboratory which focused on the basic and clinical studies of severe traumatic brain injury. The combination of specialized clinical department and specialized research laboratory for craniocerebral trauma in the Beijing Tiantan Hospital makes Dr. Liu’s career unique not only in Beijing, but all around China. In both domestic and foreign journals, Dr. Liu has authored or co-authored more than 60 papers on many different topics, and was the first author of 35 papers. Dr. Liu has edited the published book “Operation Guideline of Acute Brain Injury” in chief, and has also edited several other professional literatures. Up to now, Dr. Liu has been in charge of ten research programs of different sizes and grades and has been granted more than a million RMB funds for his researchs.
Over the past 20 years' clinical work, Dr. Liu has been chasing advancements in clinical and scientific research skills, especially ever since he got his master's degree and worked in the Beijing Tiantan Hospital in 1995. Through an general practice in many/severial different neurosurgical specialties, including brain neoplasm, cerebrovascular disease, neurotrauma, spine and spinal cord disease, pediatric neurosurgery and functional neurosurgery, et cetera, Dr. Liu has developed a wide array of professional skills. He‘s excellent in diagnosis and treatment of many different neurosurgical diseases and has experienced more than 2,000 operations in related fields during his career. He has been appointed as a medical technical instructor to go to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xizang Autonomous Region and Guizhou province, in charge of neurosurgical clinical skills training for local doctors. Because of his excellent achievements in neurosurgery, he has been featured many times through different media outlets. Since 2004, Dr. Liu has been focusing his scientific research and clinical practices on the treatment of severe head injury. His major achievements include his studies in pathophysiological reactions and their related mechanisms after head injury, standardizing the principles to treat severe traumatic brain injury, and he has trained and instructed many junior neurosurgeons too. Now, thanks to Dr. Liu and his colleagues’ efforts, the Department of Traumatic Brain Injury of Tiantan Hospital has become one of the leading Neurosurgical centers in China. Dr. Liu also has attended many famous domestic and international neurosurgical meetings as a speaker or host.
